BBC Boss Resigns For Allegations Of News Bias Including Trump's Speech

JAKARTA - BBC leaders and news chiefs resigned on Sunday following biased charges against the British broadcaster, including the way they follow US President Donald Trump's speech.

The BBC is under growing pressure after an internal report by a former BBC standard adviser leaked to the Daily Telegraph newspaper citing a failure in its coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, transgender issues, and Trump's speech.

Trump welcomed the resignation of the BBC boss while criticizing the two of them as "very dishonest people" after the BBC's flagship program, Panorama, tweeted two parts of one of his speeches, prompting the Capitol Hill riots in January 2021.

The Davie team, which has led the British Broadcasting Corporation since 2020, defended its office. He asserted his journalism as a gold standard worldwide.

However, he admits there was a mistake and he must be fully responsible.

Deborah Turness, CEO of BBC News, also resigned. In an email to the staff, she said: "I want to fully affirm the recent allegations that BBC News is institutionally biased is wrong."

Widely coupled around the world, the BBC still occupies the pinnacle of polls in the UK as the most trusted and widely covered news brand in the country, providing news, entertainment, and sports.

However, the company, funded by license fees paid by all households watching television, has received sharp scrutiny from several national newspapers and critics on social media, objecting to its funding model and liberal stance.

In recent years, the BBC has been accused of failing to maintain its commitment to news impartial to critics from both sides, who are struggling to navigate a divided political and cultural environment.

The leaked internal report said BBC Arabic had shown anti-Israel bias in its reporting of the war in Gaza.

It was also stated that efforts to cover groups campaigning for special spaces for sex had been pressured by a small group of staff who considered them hostile to the transgender community.

In recent years, the BBC has struggled to overcome various scandals.

One of them, Gary Lineker, the highest paid sports presenter at the time, was suspended for criticizing the government's immigration policy. This had caused many sports staff to go on strike as a form of protest.
