Indonesia Prepares 306 Athletes For ASEAN Para-Games 2025

JAKARTA A total of 306 athletes from 18 sports (sports) underwent a national training camp (pelatnas) to prepare for the 2025 ASEAN Para-Games event which will take place early next year.

Pelatnas ini sudah berlangsung mulai 1 November 2025 dan akan digelar selama dua bulan ke depan. Kegiatan ini dibagi ke dua wilayah.

The largest number of 291 athletes from 17 sports underwent training camps in Solo and the surrounding area, while the remaining 15 athletes from tenpin sportsmen trained in North Jakarta.

Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) of the National Paralympic Committee Indonesia (NPC Indonesia), Rima Ferdianto, said the 306 athletes' training would be escorted by 95 coaches, 91 support staff, and 18 managers.

"Currently all of them have joined. We hope that all athletes can maximize their abilities with a training time of only two and a half months left," said Rima.

Athletics is the sport with the highest number of athletes in the ASEAN Para-Games 2025 national training, namely 56 athletes. The sport with the lowest number of athletes is wheelchair tennis (four athletes).

Other sports in this national training are para-peahan (10 athletes), para-badminton (21 athletes), boccia (11 athletes), para-tour (18 athletes), para-cycling (eight athletes), and CP football (16 athletes).

Furthermore, there are goalball (six athletes), para-judo (20 athletes), para-weightlift (14 athletes), para-shooting (nine athletes), sitting volleyball (16 athletes), para-swimming (27 athletes), wheelchair fencing (eight athletes), and wheelchair basketball (11 athletes).

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, confirmed that Indonesia has set a target to get 120 gold medals from the biennial event.

"We have to be open (about the target), there is no need to be ashamed. We need to introduce togetherness in preparation for the future," said Erick.

This target makes it impossible for Indonesia to maintain the status of the overall champion obtained in the last two editions of Surakarta 2022 and Cambodia 2023, respectively.

ASEAN Para-Games XIII 2025 will take place from January 20 to January 26, 2026. The organization of this event will be centered in the City of Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
