Golkar: Prabowo Shows Statesmanship, Admits Suharto And Gus Dur's Services

JAKARTA - Head of the Media and Opinion Division of the Golkar Party, Nurul Arifin, expressed his full appreciation and support for President Prabowo Subianto's decision to commemorate Heroes' Day, November 10, 2025, to award the title of National Hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, HM Suharto, and the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur.

According to Nurul, this decision is a historic step that shows the maturity of the nation in respecting the services of leaders who have made a big contribution to Indonesia, even though it comes from different leadership backgrounds and eras.

President Prabowo showed an attitude of statesmanship by recognizing the services of the two great figures of this nation. Pak Harto has laid the foundation of national development and economic stability, while Gus Dur upholds human values, pluralism, and democracy," said Nurul in Jakarta, Monday, November 10.

He considered that the decision was not only a tribute to the two figures of the nation's leader, but also a reflection of the spirit of national unity and reconciliation that the current government continues to maintain.

By conferring the title of National Hero to Suharto and Gus Dur, President Prabowo invites all of us to look to the future without being trapped in past differences. This is a symbol of brotherhood and respect for the struggle of the nation's children from various historical tracks," he explained.

Nurul added that the Golkar Party as the party where Suharto used to play an important role, welcomed this award with pride and emotion. He also considered that the recognition of Gus Dur was an affirmation that the values of humanity and tolerance he was fighting for remained relevant and important in the life of the nation today.

A great nation is a nation that respects its founders. President Prabowo has set an example that true reconciliation is born out of respect and historical justice," concluded Nurul Arifin.

The awarding of National Heroes is carried out as a form of state appreciation for the contribution of leaders in the fields of leadership, democracy, human rights, and partiality to the people. The decision is contained in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 116.TK/2025 concerning the Awarding of the National Hero Title which was set in Jakarta on November 6, 2025.

In the ceremony, the government named ten figures as National Heroes, namely:

KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) East Java Great General TNI HM Suharto Central Java Marsinah East Java Mochtar Kusumaatmaja West Java Hj. Rahma El Yunayyah West Sumatra General TNI (Ret.) Sarwo Edhie Wibowo Central Java Sultan Muhammad Salahudddin West Nusa Tenggara Syaikhona Muhammad Kholil East Java Mr Rondhaim Saragih North Sumatra Zainal Abidin Syah North Maluku

President Prabowo's move confirms the spirit of respect for the services of national leaders who have devoted their lives for the sake of Indonesian unity, progress, and humanity.
