IPhone 18 Reportedly Will Have 12GB RAM, Equivalent To Pro Model
JAKARTA - Apple is rumored to be increasing its RAM capacity in the iPhone 18 series released in 2026, from 8GB to 12GB. If true, this will be a 50 percent increase compared to the standard version of the iPhone 17 which is currently still lagging behind the Pro and Air models.
A report from Korean media, The Bell, said that Apple had asked Samsung to increase the supply of LPDDR5X memory chips for the next generation of iPhones. Interestingly, Samsung's high-speed memory variants are only produced in 12GB and 16GB capacities, making the possibility of increasing RAM in the basic iPhone 18 model very reasonable.
So far, the iPhone 17 is the only 2025 model that still uses 8GB RAM. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air are equipped with 12GB RAM to support heavier multitasking performance and artificial intelligence (AI).

Although this rumor sounds logical, there has been no official confirmation from Apple. The Cupertino-based company is also said to be in talks with two other memory suppliers, namely SK Hynix and Micron, to ensure the availability of chip with different capacities and speeds. This means that Apple can still use memory with a lower capacity than other suppliers to maintain differentiation between the standard model and Pro.
In addition to capacity, RAM performance on the iPhone 18 is also claimed to increase thanks to the use of LPDDR5X 6-channel technology, which offers wider memory bandwidth. This technology is expected to be able to accelerate data processing, strengthen graphic performance, and optimize AI-based features in the new generation iPhone series.
If this rumor is proven, 2026 could be the year where the standard iPhone model finally penetrates the Pro's performance class marking a major change in Apple's strategy to face premium smartphone competition.
