Police Arrest IPhone 14 Pro Thief Youth At Grand Indonesia, Threatened With 5 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The Menteng Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit managed to apprehend a young man aged MSR (21) because he was caught stealing a Phone 14 pro belonging to a visitor to the Grand Indonesia shopping center, Jakarta.

The man from Batam, was secured by visitors and related security officers.

"Our officers have arrested the perpetrators of the theft of cellphones at Grand Indonesia," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro when confirmed, Sunday, November 9, 2025.

The police chief appreciated the quick role of the community and the security officers of Grand Indonesia in assisting the security process of the perpetrators.

"We are grateful to the public and mall security who acted quickly but still did not take judicial action themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator and the evidence were then secured to the Menteng Police Headquarters for further processing.

"Currently, the perpetrator has been named a suspect and detained at the Menteng Metro Police," he said.

Kombes Susatyo appealed to residents to always be aware of valuables when in crowded public places.

"We urge the public to be more careful in storing valuables such as cellphones and wallets while in public places," he said

The police chief asked the public to report or contact the Police call center 110 if they found or experienced a similar incident.

As a result of his actions, the suspect MSR was charged with Article 362 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding theft. The suspect faces a maximum imprisonment of 5 years in prison.
