BNI Founder, RM Margono Djojohadikusumo Is Considered Appropriate To Hold A National Hero Title
BANYUMAS - Founder of Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) RM Margono Djojohadikusumo deserves the title of national hero for his services in upholding the nation's economic sovereignty through the money of the Republic of Indonesia. This was revealed by the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Muhammad Qodari.
"Pak Margono is Mr. Oeang of the Republic of Indonesia. He was the founder of BNI who at the beginning served as a central bank and issued Oeang of the Republic of Indonesia (ORI) as a symbol of national sovereignty," said Qodari in Banyumas, Central Java, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 8.
M Qodari together with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait made a pilgrimage to the tomb of RM Margono Djojohadikusumo in Dawuhan Village, Banyumas District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, Saturday afternoon.
According to him, the presence of ORI published by BNI is one of the markers of the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia in the midst of the circulation of foreign currencies after the independence.
"When the money from Japan and the Netherlands was still circulating, Margono took the initiative to present Oeang Republik Indonesia. That is clear evidence of the nation's economic sovereignty," he explained.
He said Margono's services were not only in the monetary sector, but also in strengthening the people's economy.
According to him, Margono is known to have served as Head of Cooperatives and encouraged the growth of cooperative movements in the country.
"Now that President Prabowo Subianto is mobilizing community cooperatives, the root of the spirit has existed since his grandfather, Margono Djojohadikusumo," he said.
In addition, he said, Margono was also listed as Chairman of the First Supreme Advisory Council of the Republic of Indonesia and had an important role in the formation of the national economic system.
"His services are extraordinary. With such a large contribution, in our opinion, he is very worthy of being awarded the title of national hero," he asserted.
Furthermore, he said that based on an explanation from Kiai Sukirman as the caretaker of Dawuhan's grave, Margono's lineage also showed a long lineage of fighters.
In fact, he said, Margono had a relationship with the Mataram Islam dynasty.
"If it is pulled up, Margono is still of the descent of Sultan Hamengkubuwono II and Paku Buwono III, and furthermore with Sultan Agung Mataram, one of the great kings of the archipelago who fought colonialism. So the blood of the fighters clearly flows strongly," he said.
He also considered President Prabowo as the successor to the spirit of struggle of his ancestors.
"If you look at the current role, Pak Prabowo can be called the 'Sultan Agung of modern times', a fighter who serves the glory of the nation," said Qodari.
Meanwhile, PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait expressed his respect for Margono Djojohadikusumo's great services and his family's long struggle for the Indonesian people.
"We have come here to respect his career and struggle. May he be accepted by God with the nation's heroes," he said
He said the fighting spirit of Margono's extended family continues to live within their descendants, including President Prabowo Subianto.
According to him, the blood of the fighters flowed strongly in Margono Djojohadikusumo's extended family.
"From the ancestors who fought with Prince Diponegoro until now gave birth to generations of leaders who fought for the people," said Maruarar.
