Sultan Bima Approved To Become A National Hero

MATARAM - Sultan of Bima XIV Muhammad Salahuddin was finally approved to be declared a National Hero. This made the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Lalu Muhamad Iqbal claim to be touched.

"Alhamdulillah, the central government has approved the title of National Hero," said Iqbal from Mataram, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 8.

Previously, NTB already had a National Hero, TGKH Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid.

Iqbal admitted that during his meeting with the Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, he immediately asked about the awarding of the National Hero title.

"Alhamdulillah, the awarding of the National Hero title occurred when the Deputy Governor of NTB was Bima," he said.

The number one person in NTB continued, as an NTB person, he was happy to hear the confirmation that the Sultan Bima family's proposal and long struggle was finally approved by the central government.

The proposal to determine Sultan Salahuddin as a National Hero was proposed along with a number of other national figures such as the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia Suharto, the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), and women labor activist Marsinah.

"I am touched by this agreement, every time I go to the center, I always ask this proposal," said Iqbal.

He added that this honorary title would be officially awarded by President Prabowo Subianto at a state ceremony at the State Palace on November 10, 2025, to coincide with the commemoration of Heroes' Day.

"Congratulations to the big family of the Sultanate of Bima and for the entire NTB community. Because he belongs to us and our heroes. The most beautiful gift for NTB's 67th Birthday," he said.

It is known that Sultan Muhammad Salahuddin ruled the Sultanate of Bima between 1915 and 1951. He is known as a visionary leader, has a national perspective, and has a strong commitment to education and the struggle for independence.

During his leadership, Sultan Salahuddin played a major role in defending the sovereignty of the Bima people in the midst of colonial pressure, as well as encouraging social progress and education in his region.
