Jimly: Antasari Azhar's Figure Obeys And Is Firm

TANGERANG - Chairman of the National Police Reform Acceleration Committee Jimly Asshiddiqie recalled the late Antasari Azhar, Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the 2007-2009 period as a person who obeys the rules and is firm in his work.

"It's very firm, in my opinion, it's a straight assessment. But yes, there's just a mistake, there's something wrong," said Jimly after attending the funeral prayer process at the As-Syarif Al Azhar Mosque in BSD, South Tangerang, Banten, Saturday.

He conveyed that during the time the deceased served as Chairman of the KPK and law enforcers, many things must be role models and lessons on the problems he faces.

So, he said, in the future law enforcement agencies, especially the KPK, must be even better in carrying out their duties as eradicating corruption.

"I think it is important to invite all pilgrims, all citizens to reminisce about the problems that occurred when Antasari Azhar became chairman of the KPK. So that it becomes a lesson to improve in the future. Moreover, the KPK has not yet 'recovered'," he said.

He said, from the problems faced by Antasari Azhar, it should be the basis for reform or changes in enforcing the law, especially in eradicating corruption in Indonesia.

"So we encourage hopefully with the death of the deceased, we remind the current leadership of the KPK to improve themselves, improve themselves, especially in the midst of challenges where the prosecutor's office is increasingly prominent, now its role is in law enforcement, especially eradicating corruption," he explained.

"I myself think that the case that ensnared him was not too wrong. There was only the KPK problem in his era faced many problems. Pressure from outside and so on, so he had to accept the consequences," he added.

Mantan Ketua KPK Antasari Azhar meninggal dunia karena sakit yang dihitanya sejak lama.

The man who was born in Pangkal Pinang, March 18, 1953, died at the age of 72 at his home in the Les Belles Mainsons E-10 Housing Complex, North Serpong District, South Tangerang City. The deceased died on Saturday at 10.57 WIB.
