Explosion At SMAN 72, Minister Of PPPA Ensures Psychological Support For Students

JAKARTA - In the explosion incident that occurred at SMA Negeri (SMAN) 72, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Arifah Fauzi stated that he prioritized child protection and recovery.

"We express our deep concern over the incident because the victims are children in the school environment who should feel safe. Children's safety must be the main concern of all parties because schools are not just places to study, but safe spaces for children's growth and development," said Arifah in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, November 8.

The Ministry of PPPA has coordinated with the Jakarta Province Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control (PPAPP) Office. The PPA service and UPTD team together with psychologist networks and assistant staff have been deployed to provide psychosocial support to students who are traumatized.

In addition, the Ministry of PPPA also ensures that medical needs and information for victims' families can be met quickly and accurately.

"We also continue to coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Education Office, security forces, and the school to ensure that the handling runs quickly, directionally, and is oriented towards the best interests of children," said Arifah.

He emphasized the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation so that every step taken does not only focus on physical recovery, but also on the mental and emotional conditions of children affected.

The Minister of PPPA stated that this incident was a strong reminder of the security of schools and child protection which were non-negotiable.

He also emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of PPPA to strengthen the implementation of Child Friendly Schools, anti-bullying systems, as well as early detection of psychological stress and risky behavior in students.

"We emphasize that there is no tolerance for any form of threat that endangers children. Therefore, local governments, schools, and the community need to strengthen vigilance and ensure that the child protection system runs without loopholes," he explained.

In addition to medical treatment, psychological recovery of children who are experiencing shock is also a major concern. Children who are witnesses and victims have a high risk of experiencing prolonged anxiety and fear.

The PPPA Ministry encourages schools and families to open a warm and responsive communication space, so that children can feel safe and heard.
