Vice President Gibran Orders The Guards Of The Jragung Dam Project For Food And Energy Security

SEMARANG - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka ordered the completion of the Jragung Dam project in Semarang Regency, Central Java, to be seriously escorted by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) and related institutions. The project is considered strategic in supporting food security, energy, and flood control in the surrounding area.

"Today we are at the Jragung Dam, Semarang Regency, the progress is 89 percent. Next year it will be finished. I ask that it be guarded by ministries, halls, and regional heads, because this is very important for food security, energy, and flood reduction," said Gibran.

During his visit to the project site on Friday, November 7, Gibran emphasized that the completion of this dam will also play an important role in reducing the risk of flooding, especially in the Semarang area and its surroundings.

Previously, Gibran had also reviewed the progress of the construction of the Terboyo retention pond on Jalan Raya Kaligawe, Semarang City, which is part of the giant embankment project or Giant Sea Wall. He said, although there are still several things that need to be considered, such as activating the pump engine, the project generally shows positive developments.

Last week we went to Semarang City, checked the progress of building the Giant Sea Wall retention pond and activating the pump engine. Yesterday the condition was quite severe, but now it's much better," said Gibran.

Head of the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS PJ), Sudarto, said that the construction of the Jragung Dam is targeted to be completed in November 2026. This project with an investment value of IDR 3.09 trillion is able to accommodate up to 90 million cubic meters of water with an inundation area of around 52 hectares.

The benefits are large, especially for food security. This dam will irrigate an irrigation area of 4,500 hectares and increase the planting area by about 475 hectares," said Sudarto.

Selain itu, Bendungan Jragung juga akan memperkuat ketahanan air bagi tiga wilayah, yaitu Kabupaten Semarang, Demak, dan Grobogan, dengan menyediakan pasokan air baku yang lebih stabil.

With strict supervision and timely completion, the Jragung Dam project is expected to be one of the vital infrastructures that strengthens national food and energy security, in line with the government's commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty of water resources in Indonesia.
