Manchester City Vs Liverpool: Consistency Test At Etihad

JAKARTA - Liverpool returned to winning ways after showing their best performance against Aston Villa and Real Madrid. Now, Liverpool are facing a consistency test while playing an away match against the tough Manchester City team in the English Premier League at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday, November 9, 2025 evening WIB.

Liverpool managed to break a poor record of six defeats to the last seven matches in various competitions while beating Villa 2-0 in the Premier League. This positive trend continued as Liverpool hosted European elite Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The result was not disappointing because Liverpool won 1-0. Alexis Mac Allister's goal on the big match at least restored the confidence of the players and they have shown consistency on the right track.

Manager Arne Slot said he was satisfied that the Reds managed to break that bad record. However, he admitted that he was not surprised because the team did not take long to return to its original performance. Now, he hopes the team can be consistent when facing the next tough opponent, Man City, in domestic competition.

Our main focus right now is consistency. As you know, we lost a few games and this is far more than usual... We are consistent, but consistently losing. But it's definitely not his idea," said Slot with a laugh when mentioning Liverpool's consistency.

"For me, it's no surprise how the last two games worked. It was very helpful when the opposing team did what we thought," he added.

"In the eight of the ten games we played this season, we faced different styles of play. But there is still a lot of work to be done in order to perform like that more often. That's a positive thing.

Man City is now in second place in the standings with 19 points. While Liverpool are one point adrift in third place. Both are still quite far behind Arsenal (25 points). But Slot said that the main focus right now is Pep Guardiola's team, not the standings board.

This is a game you've been waiting for and if you're a part of it, you're also looking forward to it. This match is always worth watching because many of the best players are performing," said Slot.

Slot also said that striker Alexander Isak had returned to training after three weeks of absence due to a groin injury. If fully fit, Isak will return to play.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson and defender Jeremie Frimpong have not been expected to return until after the international break.
