From The School Stage, Gamelan And Sinden Were Revived
Surakarta has again echoed the sound of gamelan and young sinden. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia through the Directorate of Cultural Value Empowerment and Intellectual Property Facilitation held the 2025 Gamelan and Sinden Festival at SMKN 8 Surakarta. This event is an important part of the series of Week Wayang and Gamelan 2025 which will take place on November 2, 2025.
This is not just an art show, but a real movement instills the love of the younger generation for the cultural heritage of the judiciary. A total of 16 junior high schools from Surakarta and its surroundings featured harmonious karawian' work between gamelan, sinden vocals, and gerongan.
Director of Cultural Value Empowerment and Facilitation, Yayuk Sri Budi Rahayu, emphasized the importance of the long-term policy direction for gamelan preservation. In the future there needs to be a road map, how the preservation of gamelan can continue in various regions in Indonesia with its various genres and peculiarities," said Yayuk Sri Budi Rahayu in a written statement received Thursday, November 6.
On the following day (5/11), the Sinden Festival was attended by eleven young sindents from various cities in Central Java. The participants emphasized that the sinden was not just a complement to the show, but a liaison between the atmosphere and the guardian of moral values in the puppet show.

The Ministry of Culture emphasized that the involvement of the younger generation at this festival is a sustainable effort to foster artistic talents as well as maintain cultural heritage that UNESCO has recognized in 2008 and Gamelan in 2021.
The series of Week Wayang and Gamelan 2025 will culminate on November 7 to coincide with National Wayang Day at Surakarta City Hall. Events are open to the general public with wayang and gamelan performances that emphasize the spirit of preserving Indonesian culture.
