Honda Confirms High Performance GT Electric Car Development Efforts

This was expressed directly by the President Director of Honda Toshihiro Mibe. He said that the company's R&D team is currently preparing technology to support the high-performance electric car.

"One moment in the future, we will provide an electric GT. But we have to decide when is the right time to make it a product," he said as quoted by Roadandtrack, Friday, November 7.

Mibe explained that the global slowdown in demand for electric cars was one of the reasons why Honda was cautious in determining the schedule for launching this electric GT model.

It doesn't mean Honda doesn't experiment internally about what the electric GT looks like. In fact, MotorTrend reports that Honda has built a prototype EV sports car, and we have also seen the concept of the vehicle's display from Honda.

Mibe also told MotorTrend that the brand plans to use Formula One as a way to temporarily demonstrate the capabilities of its electric power units.

Although there are no official details regarding the specifications, prices, or intended markets, this step reflects Honda's commitment to high-performance electric vehicles. On the other hand, Honda also continues the 0 Series program, which includes small SUVs to electric sedans as part of the company's medium-term electrification strategy.
