Deputy Minister Of Communication And Trade Nezar Emphasizes The Importance Of AI To Eradicate Human Trafficking
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, emphasized the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as an important breakthrough in the face of the rise of human trafficking in the digital space.
Just like any other technology, the presence of AI is also like a double-edged knife, which not only benefits, but also provides a threat if used in the wrong way.
He emphasized that the presence of this technology should be a solution for human protection, not a new source of threat.
"For that, we need to ensure that AI is developed ethically, pays attention to human rights, prioritizes personal data protection, and adapts to local legal and social norms," said Nezar.
According to him, the pattern of human trafficking has shifted to the digital space. He found that social media, online work sites, and dating platforms are now means of recruitment and exploitation of victims by cross-border actors.
This shift gave rise to new challenges for law enforcement. Massive data volume can no longer be handled manually, so AI-based automatic analysis capabilities are needed," he explained.

According to Nezar, the application of AI will also allow early identification of suspicious activities in cyberspace. This technology can map the network of criminals, trace illegal transactions, and accelerate the preparation of legal documents automatically.
Not to forget, Nezar also emphasized the importance of ethics in the development and use of AI. Because, the application of ethical AI is part of a national strategy to create a digital space that is safe, reliable, and civilized.
