Indonesian Shrimp Exports To The US Rose 16.3 Percent Despite Radioactive Findings Cs-137

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) noted that the value of shrimp exports to the United States (US) until the third quarter of 2025 or this September grew 16.3 percent on an annual basis (yoy).

Exports of these products continue to show positive performance despite cases of Cesium-137 (Cs-137) radioactive findings in Indonesian seafood products some time ago.

Director of Business Empowerment of the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine Products and Fisheries of the KKP Catur Sarwanto revealed that shrimp commodities are still the largest foreign exchange contributors to the fishery product sector.

This is reflected in the total value of shrimp exports in the period January to September 2025 which has reached 1,397.23 million US dollars.

"Regions are still increasing (exports) until September. This shows that related to existing conditions, we can recover conditions quickly, as evidenced by the increase in exports until September," Catur said at a press conference at the KKP office, Jakarta, Thursday, November 6.

The KKP noted that Uncle Sam's country is still the main market for Indonesian shrimp with a market share of 63.1 percent of the total national shrimp exports.

Meanwhile, shrimp exports to the US were able to grow 16.3 percent on an annual basis (yoy) as of September 2025. In fact, shrimp exports in September 2025 alone grew 16.6 percent compared to the previous month.

As Indonesia's mainstay export commodity, shrimp is far above other commodities, of which tuna tuna tuna tuna tuna tuna (TCT) is recorded at US $ 763.51 million, octopus squid of 574.75 million US dollars, crabs and crabs amounting to US $ 377.65 million and seaweed amounting to US $ 233.86 million.

Based on KKP data, the export value of Indonesian fishery products reached 4.52 billion US dollars, an increase of 6.7 percent on an annual basis (yoy). Meanwhile, the import value of Indonesian fishery products reached 0.46 billion US dollars, an increase of 26.3 percent (yoy), or about 10.3 percent of the export value, so that Indonesia is a net exporter of fishery products.

Meanwhile, the trade balance of fishery products experienced a surplus of 4.06 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.8 percent (yoy).
