Coordinating Minister Zulhas Admits Fishermen And Chicken Breeders Are Still Poor
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan revealed that the condition of fishermen and breeders is still concerning. In fact, he said the exchange rate for fishermen was still at 106.
Meanwhile, he continued, the condition of farmers is now much better. The welfare of farmers is slowly increasing with various policies issued by the government.
"The service is still poor, the value of the repairman is still 106-110. Similar to chicken breeders, egg breeders, it is not yet (sesejahtera)," said Zulhas during a meeting with farmers at Pupuk Cahaya Tani Kiosk, Tamelang Hamlet, Purwasari, Karawang, West Java, Thursday, November 6.
Zulhas, as he is familiarly called, said the government promised to improve the welfare of fishermen and breeders. He said the government would build large numbers of ponds, fishing villages, and livestock next year.
"Next year we will build in Java, West Java, 20,000 hectares of ponds. In pantura, we will build 2,000 fishing villages. This large amount will be built. Farmers will also be massive, chickens, laying, and so on, and so on," he said.
Zulhas said, this step is also in line with the increasing domestic demand from the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program. Where, the government targets the distribution of MBG to reach 82.9 million recipients.
"Because next year, the President's policy will feed 82.9 million children, toddlers and pregnant women," he said.

This year, said Zulhas, the government's focus is indeed on increasing food security in basic commodities, such as rice and corn. A number of policies have also been issued, such as increasing the Highest Retail Price (HET) of Harvested Dry Grain (GKP) by Rp. 6,500 per kg.
Zulhas said, efforts to increase production were also carried out by adding irrigation, pumping to the use of modern agricultural machinery.
With these efforts, continued Zulhas, national rice production is estimated at 34.7 million tons.
"Alhamdulillah, the production from 30 million now is 34.7 million, up 4.7 million, just repair. Enough not yet? We will build new lands, such as Merauke there are more than 1 million (ha)," he said.
