Rorotan RDF Trial Continued While Residents Were Still Complaints, But The Waste Capacity Was Reduced
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung decided to resume operating trials or commissioning Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant Rorotan, North Jakarta, when residents were still complaining about it.
Residents of Jakarta Garden City (JGC), East Cakung, East Jakarta, are still refusing the Rorotan RDF to be operated because it is affected by the pollution of the smell of garbage that is carried and processed there.
In the continuation of the waste processing trial into alternative fuel at RDF Rorotan, the DKI Provincial Government will reduce the tonnage of waste to be processed. Previously, the waste processed was 2,000 tons. Now, that amount is reduced by half.
"I have decided earlier, now the most important thing is that we limit the capacity to 1,000 first. It's not a maximum pick. If it's a maximum pick, right, it's not ready," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, November 6.
Pramono explained that this decision was taken to see the commissioning condition of RDF Rorotan some time ago. Where, when the waste capacity processed has not reached a maximum of 2,500 tons per day, its operation does not cause any problems. Smoke coming out of Rorotan's RDF ceiling is still considered to be in accordance with the threshold and piles of unprocessed waste are not deposited protracted. In addition, the mobility rate of garbage trucks to Rorotan RDF is also still normal.
"The problem is when it is raised to 2,000, it even becomes 2,500. What's the problem? The first one, the waste itself gets rained so that the process becomes a bacteria. The second, the most important thing is this, when transportation uses compact trucks, the compact one, which is used some of the trucks are old trucks so that the water drops, creates a smell, and so on, and so on. So, in the meeting I have decided, we will return to 1,000 for production," explained Pramono.
In addition, Pramono will also add new garbage truck trucks to operate. Old garbage trucks whose condition is no longer feasible and often cause leakage of garbage and dripping on the road will be pulled and no longer operating.
"So, the fleet now has 93 trucks in 2024. I ask for 2024, I ask for the procurement of 2025 which will soon arrive, it will be accelerated so that only new trucks will serve, which will take a long time to pull everything for other places," said Pramono.

Since last week, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, revealed that the RDF Rorotan trial was temporarily suspended according to Pramono's direction. The cessation was carried out to ensure the technical readiness of garbage transport vehicles, especially so as not to cause dilution of lindi water during the distribution process.
"For the trial, yesterday, Mr. Governor of Statement, the trial was stopped first while waiting for the readiness of the compact truck to be able to compare properly and not cause water spills," explained Asep.
DLH is now improving the transportation vehicle mobilization system and adding a new fleet. This year, the DKI Provincial Government will hold 51 additional compact units that will be used specifically to serve the Rorotan RDF.
Asep hopes that the trial will not last long. He assessed that RDF Rorotan played an important role in reducing the volume of waste shipments to the Bantargebang Final Processing Site (TPA).
"The function of the Rorotan RDF will be very helpful for the processing of Jakarta waste. So far, Jakarta residents only rely on the Bantargebang TPA, and with the Rorotan RDF it is very helpful so that the delivery of garbage is no longer as much as it is today," he added.
