DPR Urges Police To Completely Investigate The Fire At The Judge's House Handling The North Sumatra PUPR Corruption Case
Member of Commission III of the DPR Abdullah urged the police to thoroughly investigate the case of the fire at the house of the Corruption Crime Judge (Tipikor) at the Medan District Court, Khamozaro Waruwu, which occurred on Tuesday, November 4.
According to him, there was an intentional suspicion because Judge Khamozaro is currently hearing a case of alleged corruption at the North Sumatra Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR).
He assessed that this fire incident could not be underestimated and should be thoroughly investigated whether it was a pure fire or if there was an element of intent that led to acts of terror against the judge.
"The police must move quickly and professionally to ascertain the motive behind the fire. There should be no impression of omission. If it is proven that there is an element of terror, the perpetrator must be dealt with firmly," Abdullah told reporters, Thursday, November 6.
According to Abdullah, the safety and security of judges handling corruption cases is very crucial, especially in maintaining the independence and courage of judges to uphold justice.
The Khamozaro judge must receive maximum escort and protection. The state must be present to ensure that every judge can decide the case fairly without pressure or threats," said the member of the legal commission.
Abdullah assessed that this incident was also a serious alarm for law enforcement officials and the Judicial Commission to strengthen the protection system against judges, especially those handling corruption cases and other high-risk cases.
"Protection of judges is not only the responsibility of the judiciary, but also the commitment of all law enforcement agencies. There should be no terrorist attempts that interfere with the law enforcement process," he concluded.
