5,000 Tons of Waste Will Be Converted into Energy Every Day, Banten Accelerates Construction of Jatiwaringin PSEL
BANTEN - Banten Governor Andra Soni is expediting cross-regional coordination to ensure the readiness of the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency as an integrated waste processing site for the Greater Tangerang agglomeration.
The facility will be developed into a waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant.
"Discussions are needed so that what's in Jatiwaringin is our joint effort. Waste to energy is not just a desire, but a necessity," said Andra Soni in Serang City, Antara News Agency, Thursday, November 6.
This statement was made after leading a Coordination Meeting on Waste to Energy Management at the Banten Governor's Office, Banten Province BLKI, Jelupang, South Tangerang City, on Wednesday (November 5).
Andra explained that he had personally inspected the Jatiwaringin TPA, which is being prepared on five to seven hectares of land. The government is currently finalizing the land and providing supporting facilities such as water, transportation, and road access.
"The land is currently being finalized," said Andra.
He emphasized the importance of synergy between local governments in Greater Tangerang so that construction of the processing facility can begin in December 2025 by the implementing company, Danantara. He stated that the volume of waste in the Greater Tangerang area, which reaches more than 5,000 tons per day, offers significant potential for processing into electricity.
"The environmental agency in the region should immediately draft or draft a cooperation agreement for the Waste to Energy (PSEL) program," he said.
Tangerang Regent Mochamad Maesyal Rasyid stated that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has designated the Jatiwaringin Landfill as the official location for the Waste to Energy (PSEL) Program for the Greater Tangerang agglomeration area.
The Tangerang Regency Government has prepared approximately seven hectares of land to be jointly utilized by the three autonomous regions. The Tangerang Regency Water Company (PDAM) has also installed a water installation to support the processing and provision of clean water for local residents.
"The PDAM has installed a water installation for waste processing, including clean water for the surrounding community," he said.
Maesyal added that widening the road access to the landfill is necessary to support the mobility of waste collection vehicles.
Meanwhile, South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie emphasized that his office will prepare long-term cooperation regulations with the local Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) to ensure the PSEL project has a strong legal basis.
"Because this collaboration is long-term, it needs to be regulated in regional regulations," he said.
Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin expressed his full readiness to support this cross-regional collaboration, considering that Tangerang City is currently facing a waste emergency.
Adipura and Waste to Energy Coordinator for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Arief Sumargi, added that accelerating the PSEL project in Greater Tangerang is a strategic step to improve waste management, reduce carbon emissions, and reduce the spread of microplastics.
"Hopefully, the process of converting waste into electricity in the Tangerang area can be accelerated," he said.
The Jatiwaringin Waste to Energy program is expected to become a pilot project for modern waste management in Banten Province, while strengthening the region's contribution to the green economy and national energy security.
