Beware Of Extreme Weather, ASDP Ensures Operational Crossing With Strict Protocols

JAKARTA - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) has tightened operational protocols in all crossings ahead of the extreme weather period which is predicted to take place from November 2025 to February 2026.

This step is a response to the commemoration of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the peak of the rainy season in most parts of Indonesia.

BMKG predicts that the peak of the rainy season will occur first in the western region of Indonesia from November to December 2025, then switch to the southern and eastern regions from January to February 2026.

Surface current activity around Merak Port in early November also showed an increase, with a speed of 32 103 cm per second, signaling the need for additional vigilance in the field.

ASDP President Director, Heru Widodo, emphasized that his company has prepared various steps to ensure the safety of service users remains a top priority, especially during the dynamic weather period.

"We are committed to providing services that are not only reliable, but also guarantee the safety and comfort of the community. Every trip must take place safely, including when facing extreme weather," Heru said in an official statement, Wednesday, November 5.

Meanwhile, ASDP Corporate Secretary, Shelvy Arifin said that his party had prepared mitigation steps in the four main branches, namely Merak, Bakauheni, Ketapang, and Gilimanuk.

The move includes the readiness of operational support tugboats, increasing the readiness of fleets and port facilities, as well as strengthening communication systems and weather information.

"We are intensely coordinating with BMKG to monitor port weather conditions and crossing routes periodically. In addition, ASDP also maintains close coordination with regulators, such as Syahbandar and BPTD, so that any decision-making, especially regarding port open-close operations, can be carried out quickly and coordinated for the sake of mutual safety," explained Shelvy.

Shelvy emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility between operators and service users. The public is advised not to force travel if weather conditions are not possible and always follow the directions of officers in the field.

We understand that many service users want to arrive on time, but safety must still be a priority. The ship's travel decision is entirely under the authority of the regulator, in this case Syahbandar, which issued a Sailing Approval Letter (SPB). ASDP will always comply with these provisions for the sake of mutual security," he said.

ASDP also reminds service users to prepare trips early on. All ferry tickets can now only be purchased online through Ferizy applications and sites, with a maximum ordering period of H-60 before departure. There is no more ticket sales at the port.

"People are asked to make sure they already have tickets before leaving and arrive according to the listed schedule to avoid queues and delays in service," he said.

With tightened operational protocols, cross-institutional coordination, and active community participation, ASDP is committed to keeping crossing mobility safe, orderly, and comfortable throughout the extreme weather period.
