Don't Be Wrong Again, This Is The Right Stage Of Handling Small Wounds
JAKARTA - Many still make mistakes in handling wounds, especially minor or superficial wounds. Such as underestimate the wound because it is considered light, so as to leave the wound open.
In fact, the wound must be handled properly regardless of the type, including minor injuries. Proper treatment is needed so that the wound recovers quickly and does not cause other health problems.
Many think that if you are injured, you can simply give antiseptics. Even though the wound is different, the depth, and others. And each wound requires actual special treatment," said the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Surgeon Association (PABI), dr. Heri Setyanto, Sp.B, FINACS, when met in Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Therefore, everyone should know the stages of handling good and correct wounds, as follows.
1. Wounds cleaned
The first step that must be done to treat the wound is to clean it by washing it. By cleaning the wound, it can reduce the attached germs.
"First, it cleans the wound by washing it. Washing it will reduce the number of germs," said Doctor Heri.
To clean the wound, you can use a new NaCl liquid, or new mineral water, or cooked water.
"It is recommended to use NaCl liquid, which is sterile. If it doesn't exist, mineral water can be used but it's still new, not used. It can also use cooked water, but what has been cooled," he explained.

2. Press the wound
After cleansing, it is recommended to suppress the wound for 5 to 10 minutes. This stage is carried out to find out whether the wound includes minor injuries or internal injuries, which require further medical treatment.
"If the wound is still bleeding, try to press the wound. Five to 10 minutes his bleeding has stopped, continue with the treatment (closed)," he said.
"But if 5-10 minutes are still bleeding, it means the wound includes internal wounds that have been hit by a larger blood vessel. This must be taken to the hospital," he continued.
3. Cover the wound
If after the wound is suppressed and no more blood comes out, then the next stage that is carried out is to cover the wound with plaster. The use of plaster on the wound is necessary to protect the wound from external disturbances, such as water and maintain the humidity properly.
"Closed (with plaster) is intended to protect wounds from bad things from the area. Such as hot weather, water, germs that can enter. Continue to maintain the condition of the wound, the wound condition is not too dry, so the formation of blood vessels and new skin epidermis is better and accelerates wound healing," concluded Doctor Heri.
