Hope Of Beating Fear, London's First Muslim Walkot Selamati Zohran Mamdani
JAKARTA - The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan congratulated Zohran Mamdani for his victory in the New York Mayor Election (Pilwalkot).
Khan, who became the first Muslim mayor of London in 2016, said hope had beaten fear.
"New Yorkers face a clear choice - between hope and fear - and as we have seen in London - hope of winning," Khan wrote on social media X, Wednesday, November 5.
Khan said that during Mamdani's campaign in the Piwalkot New York contestation, which US President Donald Trump had opposed, became history in the US.
"Congratulations profusely to Zohran Mamdani for his historic campaign," he added.
Khan is known to have an ideological resemblance to Mamdani. The third mayor of London since 2024 is a member of the Labor Party, while Mamdani is known as a social democrat.
Both also have a history of South Asia. Khan was born to Pakistani immigrants in England, while Mamdani is the son of Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and Ugandan writer Mahmood Mamdani who is of Indian descent.
