The Ministry Of Public Works Conducts A Reliability Audit Of Building 80 Ponpes In Nine Provinces

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is conducting audits of the reliability of Islamic boarding schools in nine provinces with the highest number in Indonesia.

The nine provinces include Aceh; West Java; East Java; Banten; Central Java; Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY); South Sumatra; South Sulawesi; and South Kalimantan.

"A total of 80 Islamic boarding schools are samples to assess and improve the standards of Islamic boarding schools to make them safer, stronger and more livable for students," explained the Ministry of Public Works on its official Instagram account @kementerianpu, quoted Wednesday, November 5.

The audit conducted by the Ministry of Public Works includes checking roofs, walls, floors to clean water.

"Ensuring pesantren to be a place to study properly and safely through checking building structures, architecture, sanitation and electricity and fire protection systems," he said.

The details are in Aceh (5 Islamic boarding schools and 1 audit team), South Sumatra (3 Islamic boarding schools and 1 audit team) and Banten (3 Islamic boarding schools and 1 audit team).

Then, there are West Java (14 Islamic boarding schools and 3 audit teams), Central Java (17 Islamic boarding schools and 4 audit teams) and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (3 Islamic boarding schools and 1 audit team).

Furthermore, there are East Java (30 Islamic boarding schools and 6 audit teams), South Kalimantan (3 Islamic boarding schools and 1 audit team) and South Sulawesi (2 Islamic boarding schools and 1 audit team).

The Ministry of Public Works explained that each audit team consisted of 14 people with the composition of one administrative staff; three experts in the field of structure; three experts in architecture; three environmental experts; and three experts in the field of electro/machines.

"All work together to ensure that Islamic boarding schools are strong, safe and comfortable for thousands of students," he said.

It is known, the Ministry of Public Works will also assist the Public Works Office and technical agencies in the regions in the process of applying for the issuance of Building Approval (PBG) and a Functional Feasibility Certificate (SLF).

"This step is a tangible manifestation of the government's commitment to ensuring that the implementation of pesantren education is safe, healthy and sustainable, in line with the vision of human resource development in President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita," he concluded.

Previously, the Al-Khoziny Islamic boarding school building (Ponpes) located in Buduran District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, collapsed on Monday afternoon, September 29, 2025.

The building collapsed and hit hundreds of students who were praying in congregation.

One of the things most highlighted in the incident was the problem of the absence of PBG.

In addition, it is said that the construction of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School is also carried out independently by students without clear standards.

For this reason, the government will strengthen coordination across ministries and local governments to continue to disseminate information regarding the importance of building permits and certification, especially for Islamic boarding schools.
