Peugeot Introduces Polygon Concept, Radical Third Generation Leaks 208

JAKARTA Peugeot has uncovered a futuristic supermini concept called 'Polygon', which provides a radical picture of design and technology that will be carried by the third generation of their popular model, Peugeot 208.

The new generation of 208 Peugeot is expected to launch at the end of next year, positioned as the first car to use the STLA Small platform, and will continue to be produced at the Stellantis plant in Zaragoza, Spain.

From the concept described as having this "cat futuristic design" not only introduces Peugeot's new design language, but also exhibits Steer-by-wire technology first from Stellantis.

Although the new official details will be revealed next week on November 12, one image that has been released shows the striking difference from 208 today.

Citing the Autocar page, Wednesday, November 5, the Polygon design is characterized by a combined silhouette and a distinctive aerodynamic surface, which is expected to be the main signal on the production version of 208, marking a new design era for Peugeot.

This concept features a rectangular wheel called Hypersquare. This radical design was first introduced to the concept of Inception in 2023 and is scheduled to enter production.

Peugeot CEO, Alain Favey, called this system the next step in i-Cockpit's saga with a typical Peugeot interior design with a small steering position under the instrument panel. The survey adds that the Hypersquare will provide a unique and agile (agility) driving flavor in the future Peugeot.

The key innovation of the Hypersquare is the use of the Steer-by-Wire system, where there is no direct mechanical connection between the steering wheel and wheels. The system is fully electronic, making it the first Stellantis car to use this advanced technology.

The Polygon interior also features a 21-inch 'floating' display, which is likely the same convex infotainment unit as the one in Peugeot 3008, indicating that the interior of this concept is approaching production specifications.

Peugeot Polygon is expected to use Stellantis' latest platform, STLA Small. This platform is capable of storing full powertrains and electricity (BEV).

"Our strategy is to leave the choice to customers, what energy they want to use," said Favey.
