Transjakarta Targets To Serve 500 Million Passengers On Jakarta's Five Centuries

JAKARTA - PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) targets to serve up to 500 million passengers per year by 2027, to coincide with the 500-year celebration of Jakarta City.

President Director of PT Transjakarta Welfizon Yuza admitted that the target was indeed ambitious. However, Transjakarta is optimistic if you look at the significant growth trend of customers in the last two years.

"When 500 years in Jakarta in 2027, Transjakarta targets to pursue 500 million customers. Isn't it hard? But, we have to have a dream to present 500 years (Jakarta)," Welfizon told reporters, Wednesday, November 5.

Welfizon explained, the achievement of Transjakarta subscribers continues to show positive growth. In 2023, Transjakarta will serve 192 million subscribers. Then in 2024, the number of Transjakarta users will reach 372 million.

This year, the DKI regional-owned enterprise (BUMD) for public transportation services is targeting to reach around 408 million passengers.

"Bismillah, this year we are targeting 408 million which we will serve. So, we are optimistic that this will be a new number. As of the third quarter, it has reached 298 million. We are optimistic about achieving the target," said Welfizon.

Furthermore, Welfizon revealed, one of the keys to increasing the number of customers is a more aggressive campaign strategy and brand strengthening (branding) in the last two years. Transjakarta is not only focused on technical services, but also on efforts to introduce various services to the wider community.

"So far, people have always talked about it if the campaign that can be aggressive is private. The ojol campaign company is massive. But if it's a public service, just answer the complaint, it's as if the paradigm is like that. This is what we change. So we start to be more aggressive, encourage marketing campaigns, strengthen brands," he said.

He admitted, there are still many Jakarta residents who have not tried to ride Transjakarta, even though almost all people already know of its existence. Therefore, Transjakarta continues to expand its approach with various innovations, including presenting tour-level bus services or open-top tour buses as an entry point for the new segment.

"We also make open-top tours, making bus services at that level is actually entry points too. So a lot because the segment is different, the open top tour segment is a higher segment. When people ride our open top tour, we explain, 'we also have regular services, it can be like this, it can be like this'," added Welfizon.
