500 Families In Mataram Get A 6 Meter Beach Abrasion, City Government: Road Wave Breaking Shelter Program

JAKARTA - The Mataram City Government (Pemkot) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, said that around 500 heads of families (KK) in Ampenan District, were affected by coastal abrasion with a wave height of 5-6 meters on Friday, October 31, and so far they have not been able to go to sea.

"The 500 families are fishermen who live on the coast in Ampenan District," said Mataram City Ampenan sub-district head Muzakir Walad in Mataram, Tuesday, as reported by Antara.

Since last weekend's abrasion until now, he continued, fishermen on the coast of Ampenan Beach such as the Malay Environment, Bangsal, Bugis Village, Pondok Prasi and Bintaro Jaya, and others, have not been able to go to sea because the waves in Ampenan Beach waters are still high.

However, physically the fishing house was not damaged, the water only entered the alleys of residents' houses and carried garbage.

Unless there is one house that is affected, he said, because it has entered the coastal border and long before that the residents have been reminded by the River Basin Center (BWS) regarding the boundary of the coastal border.

"So far, no public facilities have been affected, including roads," he said.

Related to that, he continued, so far fishermen can still carry out their activities as usual even though they have not been able to go to sea, and the preparation of public kitchens has not been considered urgent.

According to him, efforts to prevent coastal abrasion with a script system carried out by the Mataram City Government in early 2025 and coupled with the installation of boulder stones have been maximized for partial or cassual handling of events.

However, for long-term or permanent handling, according to him, this is not a solution because for the permanent handling needed in the form of wave-breaking shelters.

"We continue to echo the construction of wave-breaking shelters so that coastal residents on Ampenan Beach can be free from coastal abrasion," he said.

The wave-breaking shelter, he said, is a building located in the middle or about 30 meters from the coastal border and can accommodate fishing boats.

"If there is already a wave-breaking shelter, God willing, fishermen at Ampenan Beach can be safe from the impact of the tidal wave," he said.
