The viral cases of infidelity made people curious why someone decided to cheat on their partner. This has apparently been studied in a scientific review in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, by Maria F. Belu and Lucia F. O'Sullivan.

The study analyzed existing research to identify characteristics that affect a person cheating. Researchers categorize these factors in the following three characteristic groups.

1. Individual characteristics

Personal characteristics of a person are consistently a strong factor that causes them to cheat. Individuals who have a low level of work, tend to be careless, irregular, less focused, are more likely to cheat.

The tendency to cheating in this characteristic increases if the partner also has a low level of crafts. Individuals who have a prominent dark personality property-Machiavellianism (manipulative), disability, psychopathism, are also vulnerable to loyalty.

Women with a high level of anxiety in entanglement (attachment anxiety) are also more prone to having an affair, and those who avoid attachment are less prone to cheating. On the other hand, wanting to have casual sex also increases the chances of someone having an affair.

2. Relationship characteristics

Factors of dynamics in relationships are also the cause of an affair. Individuals in a better quality relationship and have a high commitment to their partner, tend not to cheat.

Those who are dissatisfied with relationships or experience sexual dissatisfaction are more likely to becintarated. Sexual dissatisfaction is more closely related to infidelity in men.

3. contextual factors

Infidelity will not occur without the opportunity. The availability of attractive alternative couples is a contextual factor in the crucial case of infidelity.
