Armed Brawls In Kalimalang Are Increasingly Worrying, Residents Of Jatinegara Are Restless

JAKARTA The Jalan Raya Admiral Malahayati area or the Kalimalang route, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, is now filled with unrest following the rampant brawls of sharp armed teenagers. Local residents and traders hope that the police will increase night patrols to stop the violence that is increasingly occurring.

"There are so many incidents here. On Sunday nights there will be a lot of children hanging out, sometimes drinking, then suddenly fighting," said Rowi (45), a food trader at the location, Monday.

Clashes Stabbing Involve Celurit

One of the latest acts of violence that broke calm again occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025 night at around 23.30 WIB. The clashes between the two groups of teenagers were recorded in a circulating video showing dozens of teenagers attacking each other in the middle of the road using wood, stones, and sickles.

The sound of screams and loud firecracker eruptions caused a tense atmosphere. As a result, the traffic flow on the solid route from the direction of Pondok Kopi and Cipinang was completely stopped. Many motorists choose to turn around to avoid clashes that, although short, make residents panic.

Rowi admitted that he immediately closed his stall when he saw dozens of teenagers running around carrying sharp weapons. "I immediately closed my merchandise for fear of being hit by stones. They were very crowded, screaming with sickles. All the people fled," he said.

Triggered To Challenge Each Other On Social Media

Although the exact cause of the brawl is not yet known, residents suspect the violence was triggered by mutual ridicule and challenges between youth groups through social media, which later continued as an agreement for brawls in Kalimalang.

"They said they had made an appointment first through social media," said Jamal, another resident.

From Saturday night's incident, it was reported that one person was injured by a stone throw, although the report is still in the process of verifying the police.

Citizen Request: Increase Routine Patrols

Residents asked the security forces to immediately take anticipatory steps, especially to increase night patrols, so that similar incidents do not happen again.

"We have also reported to the sub-district. We want routine supervision, so these children don't go around playing sickles on the road," said Jamal.

Residents hope that with strict supervision, Kalimalang can return to security. "We want Kalimalang to be safe again, so that people can trade and pass without fear," concluded Jamal.
