2 Beautiful Nuri Rescued By BKSDA From The Market In North Halmahera
The Maluku Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) through the Tobelo Resort Team secured two protected birds while conducting routine surveillance at Wosia Market, Tobelo Tengah District, North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku.
While walking through the shopping area, officers found two protected birds sold in one of the residents' shops. The two animals are Nuri Ternate and Nuri Necklace Ungu, which are included in the list of protected animals based on laws and regulations," said Maluku BKSDA Forestry Police (Polhut), Arga Christyan in Ambon, Antara, Sunday, November 2.
Arga explained that the officers then provided education to the shop owner regarding the prohibition of buying and selling protected animals. With a persuasive approach, the shop owner finally handed over the two birds voluntarily.
Currently, the two parrots are secured at the Tobelo Resort office to undergo observation before being released back into their natural habitat.
The Maluku BKSDA appealed to the public not to trade protected animals and to help preserve Maluku endemic fauna. In addition to patrols in market and shopping areas, Tobelo Resort also routinely conducts socialization to the community, students, and traders regarding the importance of protecting wildlife.
This monitoring and socialization activity is part of the Maluku BKSDA's efforts to suppress illegal wildlife trade, especially the types of North Maluku endemic birds whose population continues to decline in nature.
The BKSDA also cooperates with law enforcement officials and other stakeholders in conducting field monitoring to ensure protected animals are no longer traded freely.
Through these activities, BKSDA hopes that the community can become an active partner of the government in preserving animals and ecosystems in the North Maluku and Maluku regions.
