Man In Garut Allegedly Raped Disabled Woman, Now Detained By Police

Garut Resort Police arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a disabled woman in Mekarmukti District, Garut Regency, West Java.

"We have secured the perpetrator and detained him at the Garut Police Headquarters," said Head of the Garut Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Joko Prihatin in Garut, Antara, Sunday, November 2.

Joko explained that the police received a report related to alleged sexual violence against a disabled woman by a man with the initials A (51). The suspect was arrested in Mekarmukti on Friday night, October 31.

The case was handled by the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Garut Police. After obtaining sufficient evidence, A was named a suspect.

"Currently investigators are completing the case file for further legal proceedings," he said.

According to Joko, the incident occurred on August 15. The suspect allegedly took advantage of the condition of the victim who could not walk to commit immoral acts at the victim's house.

"From the results of the examination, the suspect allegedly used the victim's condition to commit indecent acts at the victim's house," he said.

The police also coordinated with relevant medical parties and institutions to assist victims during the legal process and help with their psychological recovery.

Joko appealed to the public not to be afraid to report any form of sexual violence against women and children.

"Immediately report it so that it can be processed by law in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.

The suspect is now detained and charged with Article 6 letter c in conjunction with Article 15 letter a and letter h of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence, with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison.
