Arne Slot Refuses To Provide Latest News On Contract Talks

JAKARTA - Arne Slot declined to comment on whether negotiations on his contract extension at Liverpool were still ongoing and stressed that his focus was on returning his team to winning ways.

Arne Slot signed a three-year initial contract when he joined in 2024, hoping the Dutch coach would extend his contract after bringing Liverpool to the Premier League title last season.

However, the Reds' efforts to defend the title have seen a dramatic collapse in recent weeks, with Arne Slot's side having lost six to the last seven games in all competitions.

When asked for the latest news regarding the situation of his contract in a press conference on Friday, October 31, 2025, local time, Arne Slot shifted it.

"This is the last question I expected. My full focus is to return Liverpool to winning ways."

"That's my first and second answer, contract talks, if there is, we never talk about it here. Let's start winning again, that's my main focus," said Arne Slot.

Liverpool have lost their last four Premier League games and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup with a 0-3 loss to Crystal Palace on Thursday, October 30, 2025, early morning WIB.

Arne Slot sparked controversy after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup claiming he didn't have a deep squad even though the club had spent more than 400 million pounds on the summer transfer market.

However, when asked again about it, he tried to explain what he meant.

"We haven't lost anything. I'm glad you asked this question because I'm completely satisfied with the team and with all the quality we have."

"I'm also completely convinced of the strategy and policies we have, but that's a problem--if you call it a problem--it's not all of them having a good pre-season or getting injured."

"However, there is no reason for our results before people say this. We have to play a lot of away games with just two days of rest among them."

"It will be difficult for our players last season and the players who have been fit throughout pre-season, but that's not our situation."

"It's not a matter of the squad's depth, but how we've had this season in terms of injury and the availability of players," Slot said when asked about his team's weaknesses.

Among Liverpool's list of players who are increasingly absent is striker Alexander Isak, who looks set to miss this weekend's game against Aston Villa due to a groin problem.

Midfielder Curtis Jones is also likely to miss out, but the Reds could get an injection of encouragement with Ryan Gravenberch's return, who suffered an ankle injury at a 1-2 loss to Manchester United earlier this month.

"Ryan trained with us yesterday. Two other players (Isak and Jones) have not recovered. In the final phase of injury, things can slow down a bit or it can also be faster, but Ryan trained with us yesterday."

"He will train with us today, then we will decide whether he can start. The other two players are 99.9 percent sure they won't be in the squad on Sunday (November 2, 2025, early morning WIB)," said Arne Slot.
