After Open Goal Faucet, Matheus Cunha Gets A Joke From Manchester United Players

JAKARTA - Matheus Cunha is very happy to finally score his first goal for Manchester United. You see, his waiting for his debut goal began to haunt the newly recruited player this summer.

The 26-year-old joined Old Trafford with a transfer value of 62.5 million pounds from Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he scored 17 goals in all last season and matched Brazil's player's record most goals in a Premier League season with 15 goals.

Cunha impressed in his first few months at Manchester United, but had to wait until his ninth appearance to open a goal account with a beautiful shot from the edge of the penalty box in a 4-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

"Yes, finally. Wow. I worked hard for this. I am very happy. However, of course I want a little more contribution."

"Then today (scoring the first goal) will come, (but) we won and everything will be fine," said the cheerful Brazilian player to Premier League Productions.

When asked if the failure to score a goal interfered with his mind, he agreed.

"Of course. when you play up front, (you have to) score goals. I have to (give) more contribution."

"However, the last time I said this, if my participation was to help the team and then we started playing (good), I would also be happy."

"It's just that, of course with this goal, everyone will be around me to push me. The players started joking and then said, wow, you can score goals!"

"Things like this happen and everyone pushes me. I feel very happy to be here," said Cunha.

Cunha opened the scoring at home against Brighton, with compatriot Casemiro scoring a deflected goal before another summer's signing, Bryan Mbeumo, scoring.

Danny Welbeck's free-kick and Charalampos' header Kostoulas in the final minutes made the match at Old Trafford tense. However, Mbeumo's second goal ensured a third straight victory for Ruben Amorim's team.

"Everyone has full confidence in the atmosphere. He is a figure who pushed us forward. He was always so depressed that we started to win and then he got better every day."

"Of course, he deserves this, Manchester United deserves this. This should be a normal thing for this club."

"I'm very happy to be a part of this. An amazing day, I will remember it," said Cunha.

Manchester United continued their Premier League campaign with a trip to Sean Dyche's Nottingham Forest at the end of Saturday, November 1, 2025.
