Airlangga Said Hyundai Wants To Be Part Of The National Car

Hyundai Motor Group expressed its strong interest in being involved in the national car development project which is being initiated by the Government of Indonesia.

The interest was conveyed directly by the President of Hyundai Motor Group, Amb. Sung Kim, when meeting with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on the first day of his arrival to accompany President Prabowo Subianto at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.

This meeting also discussed opportunities for strategic cooperation in investment development in Indonesia, and one of them also discussed national car development projects as well as the direction of the transformation of the Indonesian automotive industry towards the era of future technology vehicles.

In addition, this collaboration is expected to strengthen Indonesia's position as one of the centers of automotive growth in Southeast Asia.

Airlangga appreciated Hyundai's interest as well as emphasized the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation to build a more innovative and sustainable automotive industry.

"We see great opportunities for collaboration in the development of hydrogen-based vehicles and other clean energy, which is an important part of Indonesia's green economy transition strategy," he said in his statement, Friday, October 31.

Responding to this, Sung Kim expressed his appreciation for the Indonesian government's vision of accelerating the development of low-emission vehicles.

Hyundai is committed to presenting a sustainable and competitive future mobility solution. Collaboration in the fields of AI, robotics, and hydrogen technology is an important part of our long-term strategy to support clean and efficient mobility," said Sung Kim.

As the world's third-largest automaker after Toyota and Volkswagen, Hyundai is now continuing to expand future technology development, from electric vehicles, hydrogen, to smart car solutions, with a more commercial and competitive approach across global markets.

On the same occasion, Sung Kim also expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's policy on the transformation of SOEs through Danantara, which is considered to reflect the Government's seriousness in strengthening the foundations of the industry and the national economy.

The transformation carried out through Danantara shows a progressive direction. This is a positive signal for global industry players to establish deeper cooperation with Indonesia," he said.
