411 Illegal Mining Holes Found In Halimun Salak, Gakkum Ready To Take Action
The Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the Ministry of Forestry stated that it would intensify operations to control mining without a permit (PETI) in the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park (TN) area, West Java. At least 411 illegal mining holes have been identified in the conservation area.
Director of Forestry Crime Enforcement of the Directorate General of Gakkum Kemenhut, Rudianto Saragih Napitu said his party would continue to curb the illegal mining activities even though it had entered the rainy season from November to January.
"We must control areas that have the potential to cause damage and floods and landslides during this rainy season. As a follow-up, the Directorate General of Law and Human Rights will carry out operations to control PETI in Halimun Salak which we have identified. There are about seven locations," said Rudianto as quoted by Antara, Friday, October 31.
The seven points include Mount Telaga, Cisoka, Gunung Kencana, Gunung Botol, Gang Panjang, Cibeduk, Cikidang, Pangarangan, and Mount Koneng.
The identification results show that there are 411 PETI holes and around 1,119 work schools. This number can continue to grow because the location is remote and difficult to access," said Rudianto.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Gakkum will target all confirmed PETI areas, according to the direction of the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni to prevent ecological disasters such as flash floods in the area.
