2 Died As A Result Of Falling Trees, DKI Decides To Cut All Old Trees!

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forests Service (Distamhut) Fajar Sauri revealed that his party will cut down all old trees that have been weathered and fragile in Jakarta. This is the aftermath of the fallen tree incident which resulted in two people dying in recent times.

"We will check all the health of trees, especially the old ones, and we will fly. The old ones we fly. It is complete in five regions," Fajar told reporters, Friday, October 31.

In addition to old trees, DKI Distamhut also trims trees that risk endangering people and facilities in public spaces, such as on green lanes, roadside edges, road medians, and other public areas to minimize the risk of fallen trees.

As of October 2025, 5,722 trees had their health checked, including aspects of propagation, stem conditions, slope levels, to the suitability of the title width. This examination aims to ensure that the tree's condition remains safe, especially on the green route and along the road track which is dense in community activities.

"We are currently reviewing and the team in the field is working to deal with fallen trees that block the road as well," said Fajar.

It is known, on Sunday, October 26, heavy rain and strong winds in Jakarta caused a tree to fall and hit a Lexus car with police number B 1732 SJV on Jalan Metro Pondok Indah, South Jakarta. The incident that occurred at around 14.00 WIB resulted in the car driver being killed on the spot.

Again, heavy rains on Thursday, October 30 yesterday afternoon caused a tree to fall on Jalan Dharmawangsa Raya, Pulo Village, Kebayoran Baru District, South Jakarta. The fallen tree hit 5 cars and two people became victims. One of them was declared dead.

It was recorded that 10 trees fell due to heavy rains in Jakarta last Thursday. The details are 1 tree in North Jakarta, 2 trees in South Jakarta, and 7 trees in East Jakarta. As a result, a number of facilities and buildings were hit, ranging from aerial cables, cars, kiosks, residents' posts, road signs, school roofs, to goat cages.

The DKI Provincial Government offers compensation claims for victims. The assistance can be given a maximum of IDR 50 million for victims who died and a maximum of IDR 25 million for vehicle or building damage.

"There must be compensation from the DKI Provincial Government," he added.
