Suspects Of Persecution Sentenced To Cleaning Mosques And Becoming Muezin For 3 Weeks

The suspect in the criminal act of persecution with the initials MBT alias Bangkit who abused the victim Surya was sentenced to clean the mosque and obliged to call the call to prayer for three consecutive weeks at the local mosque, Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi.

"The settlement of this case confirms the prosecutor's commitment to implementing the principle of restorative justice," said Head of the South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office, Didik Farkhan Alisyahdi, when exposing the case based on Restorative Justice (RJ) through an online video at the local Attorney General's Office, Makassar, Thursday, October 30, reported by ANTARA.

Didik stated that the RJ application requested by the Sinjai District Attorney had been approved by emphasizing that the decision was a form of the Prosecutor's commitment to promoting justice that touched conscience.

"This is in order to prioritize the restoration of relations between parties involved and the interests of the community, compared solely to the imposition of penalties," said the former Head of the Indonesian Attorney General's Office of Daskrimti.

After the RJ process was approved, Didik asked the Sinjai Kejari ranks to immediately complete the entire administration of the case and the suspect was immediately released, after ensuring that all compensation obligations to the victims had been fulfilled.

As a sanction for his actions, the perpetrator is subject to social sanctions, namely cleaning the mosque in his domicile area, including reverberating the call to prayer for three weeks at the mosque.

"I ask that there should be no transactions in the settlement of this case, remember that there is zero tolerance for transactions. I will certainly take action if this is found, this is to maintain the secretion of the prosecutor's office," said the former Head of the Pre-Prosecution Section of the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office.

Previously, the Sinjai Kejari Muhammad Ridwan Bugis and his staff filed a termination of prosecution through RJ against the suspect who was approved by the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office accompanied by his staff through a virtual exposure to the RJ case from the Sinjai Kejari Office.

The suspect, apart from being a 23-year-old student, is also a technician to help his father in a welding workshop. He was involved in a minor criminal act of abuse violating Article 351 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code, for beating Surya, who was his cousin.

The incident took place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at that time the suspect and victim Surya and other witnesses gathered to drink palm wine (ballo) until they were drunk. On the way home, at around 00.50 WITA, there was a quarrel on Jalan Yahya Mathan, Sinjai.

The victim stopped the suspect's motorbike allegedly provoked his emotions with offensive words and even invited him to a duel. Because he was still affected by alcohol, the suspect beat the victim several times, hitting the nose, back of the head and back of the body and falling on the street.

The results of the post-mortem showed that the victim suffered pain in the head, nose, arms, and legs, and found lacerations, abrasions, and bruises on several parts of the body due to being hit by blunt objects. The suspect was then reported to the authorities.

In this case, the Sinjai Kejari took steps by RJ because it met the requirements, such as, criminal threats under five years, the first time he committed a crime, the victim and suspect had a family relationship. An unconditional peace agreement was also agreed upon by both parties, as well as the suspect regrets not repeating his actions, and is ready to undergo social punishment.
