Deputy Minister Of Public Works Diana: Heavy Rain And Rob Water Triggered Floods In Semarang
The Ministry of Public Works (PU) revealed that the cause of flooding in Semarang, Central Java, was due to heavy rains and tidal water.
This was conveyed by Deputy Minister of Public Works (PU) Diana Kusumastuti when met at her office, Wednesday, October 29.
"Because it's not just rain, but rob. And the tidal wave, right, the sea water is rising, yes. Right, that's the problem in Semarang," said Diana.
The areas affected by the flood are Genuk, Sultan Agung and Kaligawe sub-districts.
Diana said that the Director General of Water Resources at the Ministry of Public Works, Dwi Purwantoro, is currently in Semarang to hold a meeting with the Governor of Central Java to discuss the flood management.
"The one who held the flood meeting in Semarang, Mr. Director General of Water Resources, together with the Governor," he said.
However, Diana said, her party had carried out emergency handling by deploying around 30 pumps to help reduce water discharge.
"We are carrying out emergency handling and have installed pumps there. In total there are 30 pumps," he said.
The hope, said Diana, is that the performance of the 30 pumps can help reduce the flow of flood water.
"Anyway, we also do new pumps here for this capacity. We pump everything and hopefully this can help," he concluded.
Mobile pumps have been deployed to flood locations, including mobile pump assistance from various BBWS, such as BBWS Brantas, BBWS Bengawan Solo, BBWS Cimanuk Cisanggarung.
