Indonesian Musicians Are Getting More Eyed Abroad, Between Voices Ready For Expansion To Singapore And Malaysia

JAKARTA - Indonesian musicians have received good reception and are in demand abroad, especially Southeast Asian countries, such as Singapore and Malaysia.

This looks like the Sheila On 7 concert titled Wait for Me Di, which was held in five cities in 2024. According to the promoter's data, Antara Suara, 20 percent of the concert came from Malaysia.

"It turned out that when we held Sheila's concert at five points, there was 20 percent of Malaysia. They were willing to travel to Indonesia to watch a concert here," said Antara Suara's CEO, Andri Verraning Ayu, during a media meeting in Senopati, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

"That's just the data between Suara. There are many major festivals in Indonesia that have many spectators from Malaysia and abroad," he added.

The data proves that Indonesian musicians have many fans from foreigners. This is an important sign for the potential for Indonesian music tourism in the future.

Indonesia is now increasingly being seen as an attractive concert destination, with qualified local musicians. This is also what makes the expansion of local promoters in other countries in Southeast Asia, especially Singapore and Malaysia, as is now being tried by Antara Suara.

With the expansion of local promoters in Singapore and Malaysia which have many Indonesian music lovers, it can help make it easier for Indonesian musicians to hold concerts in these countries.

"Next year, Antara will not only focus on Indonesia. We want to bring Indonesian musicians to tour abroad," said Ayu.

"We will ensure that Antara Suara brings an authentic and classy Indonesian music experience to a wider audience," he continued.

According to Ayu, this effort is not just an expansion of the location of the Indonesian music concert. This effort is expected to be a momentum for Indonesian music to be able to compete at the regional level, with a strong national identity.

"This is not just a geographical expansion, but an expansion of the value, how Indonesian music can compete at the regional level with a strong identity," concluded Ayu.
