JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in trading Wednesday, October 29, 2025, is estimated to have the potential to strengthen against the United States (US) dollar.

Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong estimates that the rupiah exchange rate will strengthen against the US dollar in line with increased risk-on sentiment due to the anticipation of positive results from trade negotiations between China and the United States, as well as the Fed's interest rate cuts expectations today.

"Rupiah is expected to strengthen against the US dollar amid risk on by anticipating positive results from China-US trade negotiations and expectations of cutting interest rates by the Fed today," he told VOI, Selesa, October 28.

Lukman projects that the movement of the rupiah on Wednesday, October 29, will move in the range of Rp. 16,550 per US dollar to Rp. 16,650 per US dollar.

Similarly, currency observer Ibrahim Assuaibi said that the market had the support of the increasing hopes of achieving a trade agreement between the United States and China, the two largest oil consumer countries in the world, due to a meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping scheduled to take place on Thursday in South Korea.

"Beijing hopes Washington can reach an agreement halfway to prepare for high-level interactions between the two countries, Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed this to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio by phone on Monday," he said.

In addition, he added the growing confidence that the Federal Reserve would cut the benchmark interest rate by at least 25 basis points at the end of a two-day meeting on Wednesday helped strengthen market sentiment.

According to him, the speculation was driven by data on consumer inflation, which weakened in September, indicating a slight decline in inflation.

"Broader uncertainty over the US economy, especially the cooling labor market and ongoing government closures is also expected to push for further easing by the Fed," he said.

Ibrahim estimates that the rupiah will fluctuate but closed lower in trading Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in the price range of Rp16,600 - Rp16,630 per US dollar.
