Government: National Hero Suharto's Title Of Proposal From The Community

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs (Wamensos) Agus Jabo Priyono said the proposal to award the title of national hero to the 2nd President of Indonesia, Suharto, did not come from the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), but from the public.

"The proposed title of hero is a process from the community. The community then proposed to the district. The district formed a Regional Research and Study Team (TP2GD) at the district or city level to conduct studies and research," Agus said during his visit to Kajoran Village, Magelang, Central Java, Sunday 27 October.

He emphasized that his party only acts as an institution that accommodates and assesses the proposed National Hero title before being forwarded to the Dewan Degree at the State Palace.

"If the district level is finished, then it is proposed to the province," he added.

Furthermore, the provincial government will form a provincial level TP2GD to review the proposal. If the results of the study in the province are declared complete and meet the requirements, the proposal file will be forwarded to the Ministry of Social Affairs.

"The Ministry of Social Affairs has a TP2DP team consisting of 13 people. They are the ones who research and review all the proposed heroes from the province. After being reviewed and signed by the new social minister, the results are submitted to the title council at the State Palace," Agus explained.

Agus Jabo added that the proposed process which is currently underway has reached the stage of the title council at the State Palace. The final decision regarding who will be designated as a national hero is entirely under the authority of the palace.

"So, we, the Ministry of Social Affairs, only accommodate and then carry out an assessment and continue the process to a higher level, namely the title council in the palace. Later that will decide who is worthy to become a national hero," he concluded.
