Fishing Boat Sinks In Berau, Six People Are Missing

The joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team from various elements as of Monday 27 October is still searching for six fishermen who were reported missing after their ship sank in the waters of Talisingian, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan.

"KM Mina Maritim 148 sank after being hit by high waves which caused some crew members to be thrown into the sea," said Head of the Balikpapan Search and Rescue Office, Dody Setiawan, quoted by Antara, Monday, October 27.

Of the total 14 people on board, eight of them were rescued by other fishermen who were around the scene, while six others were still missing and are being searched.

The survivors were Amran, Hardiansyah, Rahmadi, Rahmat, Rahman, Romi, Sabaran, and Syahril. While the victims who have not been found are Saharuddin, Kaharuddin, Irwan, Rizal, Basri, and Sumailah.

The first day of SAR operation on Sunday (26/10) began at 13.25 WITA, after the SAR Post in East Kutai Regency received information that the ship had sunk.

In the first place, the team's search was carried out around the scene using water SAR equipment and conducting visual searches and limited dives.

At 20.30 WITA the search was temporarily suspended because at night the visibility was very limited, and continued the search on Monday starting at 06.30 WITA.

In carrying out this operation, various supporting equipment has been deployed, including rubber boats Pos SAR Sangatta, water SAR equipment, diving equipment, as well as communication and medical equipment.

SAR operations also involve potential elements from various agencies, namely the Sangatta SAR Post Rescue Team, Berau Naval Post, Berau BPBD, Berau Police Satpolair, Berau Ditpolair, as well as assistance from local fishermen who also provide support and information in the field.

"The cross-sector collaboration is certainly the main force for us in our search and rescue efforts for victims who have not been found," said Dody.

The joint SAR team continued its second day of operation by expanding the search area. Until now, all elements involved continue to coordinate to ensure search efforts run optimally and all victims can be found immediately.
