Huawei Mate 80 Series Finally Gets 3D Face Recognition Feature On All Models

JAKARTA - Huawei officially announced the first details about its latest flagship series, Mate 80. The Chinese tech giant confirmed that all Mate 80 models will come with the built-in HarmonyOS 6 operating system and are now getting features that have been exclusive only to Pro and RS versions: 3D face recognition.

Based on the latest HarmonyOS developer documentation, Huawei stated that currently only the entire Mate 80 series and the Mate Pro devices and above support 3D facial recognition. Folding screen series and P series are not yet supported.

That way, this is the first time Huawei's advanced 3D face unlock feature is available on the standard model, not just the premium variant.

The Mate 80 series itself is scheduled to launch in November with four variants: Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro+, and Mate 80 RS. From the leaked initial engineering unit, the design still retains Huawei's typical style: a large round camera module in the middle of the back of the phone. The system includes a dual-color flash of temperature at the top left, a symmetric strip sensor on the right, as well as a multispectral lens below the major axis.

In the kitchen runway sector, the entire Mate 80 line is expected to debut with Kirin 9030's new chip. This processor is reportedly focused on architectural optimization rather than increasing raw performance, but still promises smoother performance thanks to close integration with HarmonyOS 6.

The highest variant, Mate 80 RS, is said to carry a 6.9-inch two-layer OLED screen with a higher brightness level, lower power consumption, and longer durability.

Another rumor that is quite interesting is Huawei's decision to use eSIM technology exclusively, marking the first time the Mate series completely removed physical SIM card slots.

If all of these news are true, Mate 80 has the potential to be Huawei's most futuristic series so far 'coupling 3D facial recognition, self-operative systems, and premium designs in a package that looks ready to challenge global flagship dominance.
