Pertamina NRE Uses AI To Monitor And Mitigate Operational Risks
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) presents a control room based on artificial intelligence (AI) called NOVA (New & Renewable Energy Operation and truncation). This step is taken to support efficient and sustainable operations in the company.
NOVA was developed as a center for monitoring the performance of projects and operations in all work areas of Pertamina NRE. Based on the internet of things (IoT) and equipped with CCTV in the operating area connected to NOVA in Jakarta, large video walls, interactive dashboards, and integrated communication systems.
Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis said NOVA functions to collect, visualize, and analyze operating data from all power plants located in various regions of the archipelago and managed by Pertamina NRE Group.
John also said that the new and renewable energy sector is still developing and moving dynamically. Therefore, innovations like NOVA are an important need to ensure that all operations and projects can run efficiently, integrated, and sustainably.
"We at Pertamina NRE continue to encourage an innovation culture to be able to present technology-based solutions that not only increase efficiency, but also strengthen asset reliability and support national energy transition targets," said John in an official statement, Sunday, October 26.
Compared to the previous system, continued John, this system allows real-time operating condition monitoring activities. Previously, it took several days to get the asset condition, while now it can be obtained in an instant online.

"With the existence of interactive visual media, communication and coordination with personnel in the operating area can be done digitally easily," he explained.
John also said that NOVA can analyze trends and potential disturbances through artificial intelligence technology. This technology is used for two functions, namely foreplay and predictive maintenance.
"Fungction forecasting can predict future generation results, while prescriptive maintenance functions help predict asset damage and provide solutions to predictable asset problems that will emerge," he said.
In addition, John said NOVA also helps mitigate risks in asset management and becomes a tool to make quick and accurate decisions when an emergency occurs.
Not only that, said John, NOVA can also function as a crisis center when needed, allowing the board of directors to provide direct directions to the area of operation.
"With the implementation of NOVA, the cost savings achieved are quite significant, which are obtained from reducing security personnel through utilizing CCTV in operating areas and reducing offline field visits. In addition, working time has also become more efficient, as well as suppressing potential production opportunities," he said.
