Peace Deal Between Thailand And Cambodia Signed In Front Of Donald Trump

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said that the signing of the declaration of conflict settlement between Thailand and Cambodia would take place in front of him upon arrival in Malaysia.

"I am on my way to Malaysia, where I will sign an extraordinary Peace Agreement, which I proudly mediate between Cambodia and Thailand," Trump said on his Truth Social account.

In his upload, Trump also expressed his condolences for the death of Mrs. Suri Thailand (Sirikit). "I extend my condolences to the people of Great Thailand.

"I will meet with their extraordinary Prime Minister (Anutin Charnvirakul) when we land. To accommodate everyone in this big event, we will sign the Peace Agreement as soon as arrival," he added.

Trump arrived in Malaysia on a working visit on Sunday at 10:00 local time. He attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit as an honorary guest.

In addition to overseeing the signing of the peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, his agenda includes negotiations with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the settlement of a trade agreement.

Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul canceled his visit to Malaysia due to the death of Mrs. Suri Sirikit. Widow of the late King Bhumibol (Rama IX) and mother of the ruling King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), who died on Friday at a hospital in Bangkok at the age of 93.

However, a spokesman for Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told RIA Novosti that Charnvirakul is expected to return to Malaysia on Saturday evening or Sunday morning to sign a ceasefire declaration with Cambodia.

The decades-old border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia turned into an armed conflict on July 24, with the two neighboring countries shooting artillery and airstrikes at each other.

Both sides reported casualties, including civilians. On August 4, they announced an immediate ceasefire, which was followed by an official agreement on its implementation a few days later.
