This was conveyed by US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth on Friday, October 24. This attack is the latest operation in President Donald Trump's anti-drug campaign in the region.

In an upload on X as quoted by Reuters, Hegseth said this was the first attack carried out at night as part of an operation that began in September.

The attack occurred at night and the ship was operated by the Tren de Aragua cartel.

Earlier in mid-October, US troops attacked

apart from the coast of Venezuela and killed six suspected drug dealers.

In an upload on Truth Social, Trump said the attack was carried out against a terrorist organization, but he did not provide details on which group.

"The intelligence confirms that the ship smuggled narcotics and was linked to an illegal narcotics terrorist network," Trump said, without providing evidence reported by Reuters, Wednesday, October 15.

The 30-second video Trump posted shows a ship stationed in the waters that the projectile hit before it exploded.
