Golkar Supports Suharto To Get A National Hero Title, Nurul Arifin: His Services Are Great

JAKARTA - The Golkar Party supports the plan to award the title of National Hero for the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto. The support was conveyed by the Head of Media and theraising of the Golkar DPP Opinion, Nurul Arifin, who considered Suharto to have a large service in building the nation's foundation.

"We from the Golkar Party fully support the awarding of the heroic title for Pak Harto. He contributed greatly to maintaining national stability and laying the foundation for economic development that brought Indonesia to an era of progress," said Nurul Arifin in Jakarta, Friday, October 24.

Suharto, who led Indonesia for 31 years from 1967 to 1998, was known as a central figure during the New Order era. Under his leadership, Indonesia experienced rapid economic growth and increased infrastructure, and self-sufficiency in rice.

Thanks to his determination, Suharto received the title "Father of Indonesian Development" from the MPR through MPR Tap Number V/MPR/1883.

Golkar's support for Suharto is not the first time this has appeared. Previously, the Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party, Bambang Soesatyo, while serving as Chairman of the MPR RI, had also proposed that Suharto be awarded the title of National Hero.

The concrete step towards the award is now becoming more evident after Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul handed over the files of 40 names of proposed figures for the National Hero title to the Chairman of the Council for Titles, Services, and Honors (GTK), Fadli Zon.

"The name Mr. HM Suharto is among the figures we submitted. All names have passed in-depth verification, both from the aspect of service and their service to the nation," said Gus Ipul.

The GTK Council will examine all of these proposals before being submitted to the President for a final decision. The results of the determination are expected to be announced ahead of the commemoration of Heroes' Day on November 10.
