Trump-Xi Jinping Will Attend APEC Summit In South Korea, Scheduled To Meet Four Eyes

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a state visit to South Korea next week attending the APEC Summit.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to hold meetings with Trump and Xi separately, said Wi Sung-lac, South Korean president's security adviser.

"Through a series of summits between South Korean leaders and the United States, the United States and China, as well as South Korea and China, we will not only highlight South Korea's role as a platform but also build consensus for peace, prosperity and stability in the region," Wi told reporters. reported by Reuters, Friday, October 24.

As part of his trip to Asia, Trump will meet Xi next week in South Korea, the White House previously announced this, amid growing trade tensions between the two countries and the world's largest economies.

Wi said South Korea hopes to discuss issues surrounding US security and tariffs at the upcoming meeting between Lee and Trump, but he is not sure if the two sides will reach an agreement.

South Korea and its main allies are still at a "sharp" disagreement over the level of cash investment as part of the $350 billion package South Korea promised by deal to lower US rates over the country's exports, industry minister Seoul said on Friday.

Lee plans to hold a summit with Xi where the two leaders are expected to discuss deepening bilateral partnerships and issues related to North Korea, Wi's top security adviser said.

Prior to the APEC meeting, Lee will travel two days to Malaysia between October 26-27 to attend the ASEAN Summit which Trump also attended.

On the sidelines of the ASEAN summit, Lee will speak with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and discuss the latest online fraud issues.

"The full multilateral summit week will begin soon, starting with the ASEAN Summit and continuing until the APEC Summit in Gyeongju," said Wi.
