Seeing How Jassin Develops Documentation At The Sastra Documentation Center

YOGYAKARTA Hans Bague (HB) Jassin is one of the writers and figure who has contributed to Indonesian literature documentation activities. The documentation has been carried out since 1940 as a private collection. The collection of literary works he has collected is currently listed in the HB Jassin Literature Documentation Foundation. One of the interesting processes of documenting the work is how Jassin prepares documentation at the literary documentation centers that he does one by one.

In a book entitled HB Jassin Nurses Sastra Indonesia written by Prih Suharto, it is stated that Jassin is compiling literary documentation by inserting it in the folder. After that, the folder is given a note containing a date and a loading place. This method is carried out in accordance with what is seen during the work internship in Gorontalo.

Jassin described, the first type of folder that was compiled was containing documents related to the individual writing it down. For example, writing in magazines, newspapers, life history, to people's conversation about the person's book.

In addition, there are also folders containing certain issues, for example about the Force 66, Balai Pustaka, Biographymen's, Centers, Manifes Kebudayaan, and Simposium Sastra.

Jassin also said that in the documentation system that was done manually, the existence of an writing card and address card to write it/institution/institutional organization was important.

As is known, documentation of literary works carried out by HB Jassin was originally intended as his personal collection alone. Not everyone can access the clips collected by the writer.

Until finally Ajip Rosidi and several other figures initiated the formation of a new foundation. With the help of Ali Sadikin who served as Governor of DKI at that time, the HB Jassin Literature Documentation Foundation was formed on June 28, 1976. Then the HB Jassin Sastra Documentation Center was inaugurated by Ali Sadikin on May 30, 1977.

Since its inauguration, the documents collected by HB Jassin have become more well maintained. The document is managed by the HB Jassin Literature Documentation Foundation (PDS HB Jassin) to date.
