Mayor Eri Cahyadi Invites Surabaya City Government Employees To Be Foster Parents For MBR Children
SURABAYA - The Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, does not want Surabaya's children to drop out of school amid the COVID-19 pandemic which affects the economy of residents.
Eri Cahyadi appealed to all employees of the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) to participate in the education scholarship program, namely by becoming foster parents for children whose families are poor or are included in the Low Income Community (MBR).
The appeal was contained in the official letter numbered 421/4075 / 436.7.1 / 2021. In the letter, Mayor Eri said in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the City of Surabaya which has an impact on the economy. This situation has been going on for a long time, causing more residents to lose their jobs or to have less income.
"If the government does not come soon in this situation, it will affect the education sector, where children will have difficulty getting education due to lack of funds," Eri wrote in his official letter, Wednesday, May 19.
According to him, the program will be allocated to residents of Surabaya City from poor families / Low Income Communities (MBR) at the private junior high school level.
"The assumption is that each child is IDR 125 thousand per month for 3 years or until graduation. If you are willing to participate, please fill out the willingness form on the link: http://bit.ly/plasi-program-beasiswa-pendidikan," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Surabaya City Education Office, Supomo, confirmed that the appeal letter had been sent to all levels within the Surabaya City Government. The municipal government has also held a coordination meeting to make this event a success. "Registration to become foster parents in this program is no later than today, May 19, 2021, and as planned, tomorrow Thursday we will coordinate again on this matter," said Supomo.
Supomo ensures that these foster parents are different from the existing foster parent programs. This time, it was devoted to children from low-income families, while the previous program was specifically for children who were ex-lokalisasi. "So, the target is different from the previous program," he said.
According to him, the purpose of this program is in accordance with the vision and mission of the Mayor of Surabaya, which wants mutual cooperation and harmony in life in the city of Surabaya, so that those who are able to help the weak, then those who help the less, and the strong help the weak.
"In this way, mutual cooperation between residents will be created, so that there will be harmony among residents. And most importantly, the goal is to prevent children dropping out of school, all Surabaya children must go to school," he said.
When an employee is willing to participate, the employee must make a statement that his / her salary will be deducted for this program. Every month, Rp. 125 thousand will be deducted for 3 years or until the child's graduation.
"So, the employee was immediately deducted from his salary, and the bank immediately sent it to the school treasury to pay the school fees for the MBR child, so that the MBR child and also the Dispendik themselves did not hold the money, because they went straight to school. It was safer and more precise. target, "he concluded.
