London Police Operate Drones For Faster Emergency Responses

JAKARTA - The British Metropolitan Police (The Met) began operating drones to respond to emergency calls.

These drones are claimed to be able to reach the scene of the incident more quickly and send recordings to the responding officers, thus helping them identify and find suspects.

"Officers will look at the situation firsthand before they arrive to help make the right and more appropriate decisions to find the suspect and maintain public security," the Metropolitan Police uploaded in an upload on X as quoted Friday, October 24.

"A faster awareness, smarter response, safer society," he added.

The launched an operational trial titled 'Drone as First Response' in the Islington area, north London, as reported by Reuters.

The Metropolitan Police plan to expand it to two additional locations in the capital by the end of the year.

Drones stored in a "box" over the police building can be deployed remotely to the scene.

Once above its altitude, the image is directly sent in real-time to the control room or to the officer on duty via the mobile device.

The London Metropolitan Police said the drone would support various frontline police needs, including search for missing persons, tracking suspects, and gathering evidence from the scene.

Other police officers in the UK are currently also testing the use of drones, the London Metropolitan Police said.

Drones are also being tested for other purposes. UK aviation regulators selected six projects last year to test the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in delivery and infrastructure checks.

Our new drones can deploy to calls in London immediately.

Officers will have a live-time view of situations before they arrive to help make predictions and better-informed decisions to locate suspects and keep communities safe.
